Student Engagement — Creating a Culture of Academic Achievement
Engagement in school is key to student achievement, and not merely at levels measured by state tests. Learner engagement is not a given, rather it involves a complex combination of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral domains. This workshop will clarify the essential school and classroom preconditions, culture and instructional approaches needed to help students to become active, engaged learners. Significant time will be devoted to the review of best practices to increase student engagement. The workshop is based on the International Center’s resource kit, Student Engagement — Creating a Culture of Academic Achievement.
