Rigor and Relevance in the Elementary Classroom



This workshop will provide information and hands-on activities to help elementary educators deliver instruction to enhance rigor and relevance in the classroom and adhere to state standards and curriculum guidelines. Examples will be provided from actual elementary classrooms that participants can apply in their own classrooms. The workshop will include an overview of the Rigor/Relevance Framework, activities to extend lessons into real-world problem-solving, and samples of curriculum integration units across grade levels.

Objectives
  • Apply the Rigor/Relevance Framework to various instructional settings, learning experiences, instructional strategies, and assessments.
  • Identify behaviors, activities, and school cultures and structures that engage students and contribute to personalizing rigor and relevance and supporting learning.
  • Replicate best practices that promote rigor, relevance and relationships for all students.
  • Design action steps unique to their own schools that develop a culture of rigor and relevance and relationships that support student learning.
