Informational Writing
Writing that gets the world's
work done
In many schools, almost all the writing students
do is addressed to the same audience - the teacher, who generally
knows more about the subject than they do. Informational Writing
focuses on challenging students with the kind of writing they will
be required to do in the real world. The writer is generally more
knowledgeable than the reader about the subject involved.
This supplementary English textbook, designed primarily for the
11th and 12th grade student, covers a wide variety of real-world
writing situations - technical writing, journalism, news reporting,
marketing and other types of persuasive writing as well as some
academic writing.
Included in Informational Writing are 36 writing tasks directed
at real-world audiences, many of which are appropriate for writing
assignments in other subject areas as well. Each of these tasks
give students practice in skills ranked high on the Curriculum Survey
of Essential Skills. In addition, the majority of the tasks are
at the highest levels of rigor and relevance on the Rigor/Relevance
Framework.
A 24-page Teacher's Guide is included with every order. The Teacher
Guide correlates each task to the Essential Skills and the Rigor/Relevance
Framework. Detailed instructions are provided for assembling and
evaluation of student' portfolios of their informational writing.
