Doctor Nussbaum educates the general public on the basics of the human brain and how to keep the brain healthy over the entire lifespan. He has presented his views on brain health at the United Nations and National Press Club. His keynote presentations across the nation are both informative and fun and he is often interviewed by the local and national press/media. Dr. Nussbaum serves as the Chief Scientific Officer for Fitbrains, Inc (www.Fitbrains.com), Senior Advisor to the International Center for Leadership in Education (www.LeaderEd.com) , and he was recently named Chair of the Advisory Board for Alzheimer’s Prevention by the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (www.alzprevention.org).

He also received with Emeritus Assisted Living the 2007 “Best of the Best” award for the Brain Health Initiative and Prototype Program presented by the Assisted Living Federation of America.

Depending on the length of the presentation, participants will learn:
  • the basics of the human brain, including neuroanatomy, neurochemistry and brain-behavior relations.
  • how the brain can be shaped for health, what neural plasticity means on a personal and professional level, and what current research indicates regarding the concept of brain reserve.
  • how rigor, relevance, and relationships is mapped onto the human brain.
  • about a brain healthy lifestyle, with research-based activities to promote the health of the brain at any age.
  • how the principles of brain health can be applied to transition a school into a culture for brain health.

Presentation Topics Include:
  • Basics of Brain Health and Education
    90-Minute Keynote Address

This keynote address provides the basic information on the human brain that every person should learn. Building from the basic understanding of the human brain, Dr. Nussbaum makes connections between how the brain processes and operates and rigor, relevance, and relationships. This forges the link between basics of the human brain and the act of teaching and learning. Dr. Nussbaum concludes with the latest research on how to maximize brain health using his brain health lifestyle approach.

  • Digging Deeper into the Human Brain and the Education System
    Three-Hour Keynote Address

This keynote presentation provides a deeper and more detailed review of the human brain, including neuroanatomy, neurochemistry, and brain-behavior relations. Emphasis is on learning and the multiple neurobehavioral factors that can affect learning. Dr. Nussbaum integrates the information on the structure and operation of the human brain with rigor, relevance, and relationships to give teachers and school leadership a solid understanding of how RRR maps onto the brain. The presentation closes with current research on how to maximize brain health across the lifespan and how to transition a school to a brain health center.

  • Comprehensive Brain Health into the School System
    Day-Long Workshop

This workshop begins an in-depth review of the human brain, including the basics of neuroanatomy, neurochemistry, and brain behavior relations. Discussion then focuses on the latest understanding of neural plasticity and how the brain can be shaped for health across the lifespan. Dr. Nussbaum relates his knowledge of the human brain’s structure and function to rigor, relevance, and relationships and shows how RRR maps onto and is served by the human brain. The workshop teaches about a brain healthy lifestyle that incorporates research-based activities to maximize the health of the brain across the lifespan. Participants develop a strategic blueprint for how to apply the principles of brain health to a school or district. The goal is to emerge with an outline of next steps for transitioning the school to a brain health center.

Upon request, Dr. Nussbaum will sign copies of his book, What Brain Research Teaches About Rigor, Relevance, and Relationships: and What It Teaches About Keeping Your Own Brain Healthy, in conjunction with his presentations.

“Your presentation was great. I have gotten great feedback from participants about your presentation. It is not only fascinating information that you share, but something I believe all should hear. We will definitely keep you in mind for our future work.”

Susan Kertes, Assistant Director
Indiana Department of Education, Indiana

"You were a huge hit! EVERYONE has been commenting on your talk. Teachers on in-service day are notoriously a difficult audience. You have a real gift to be able to engage them, making what could be a difficult topic understandable and enjoyable. Thanks for coming. I'm sure we will be in touch in the future!”

Richard Scaletta, Principal
General McLane High School
Edinboro, Pennsylvania

"Dr. Nussbaum was FANTASTIC. I actually hope I can have him back next year for some special concurrent sessions. He provided great information, which could be used immediately by attendees for personal and professional growth."
Wofford O'Sullivan, Education Associate
State Department of Education, South Carolina

"I recently returned from the Model Schools Conference in Orlando. I was fascinated and much intrigued by Dr. Nussbaum’s presentation on brain health. I am awash with many ideas on how to lead a school that is good, but complacent and underachieving, to greatness. Paul’s presentation and book have helped to give me a clearer direction of the steps we will need to take. I plan to share points from your presentation with my leadership team and to recommend your book to them as we begin this exciting challenge. Thank you for the inspiration and direction."
