Asking students and staff for feedback about their experiences in school can initiate innovative and meaningful school change. The We Surveys, developed by the Successful Practices Network in partnership with the International Center for Leadership in Education, are an easy-to-use tool that can provide insight into the levels of rigor, relevance, and relationships in your school. These surveys reveal student and teacher perceptions of the learning environment and staff perceptions of school leadership, all of which can provide direction for increasing student achievement.

The suite includes three surveys:
  • We Learn – Student Survey
  • We Teach – Instructional Staff Survey
  • We Lead – Whole Staff Survey

The reports provide valuable information that can help guide decisions about improving student achievement and promoting the highest teaching and learning standards. The data gathered from the surveys is meant to help explore the elements of school success related to student and staff perceptions. Areas of strength and areas of concern can be gleaned from the data, interpreted within the school’s unique culture and weighted in importance as determined by school leadership.

About the Surveys:
  • 60 items on each survey
  • 10-15 minutes to administer
  • online or paper versions available
  • parallel items for students and instructional staff show comparisons
  • surveys can be administered individually or together

The We Teach and We Learn surveys can be administered independently or used in tandem so teacher and student perceptions can be compared and gaps identified.
